3 Opoku Ware SHS students arrested for alleged robbery

Three Opoku Ware Senior High School seniors have been detained for their alleged involvement in a robbery that happened in Kumasi.

The three students, who range in age from 17 to 19, reportedly failed in their effort to steal a taxi from its driver on Friday night, according to sources at the Ashanti Central Divisional Command.

The suspects were picked up by the driver in the Santasi area. The passengers claimed to be going to the Lancaster Kumasi City, formerly known as the Golden Tulip Hotel, in the Nhyiaeso district when they enlisted his services.

However, after they arrived at the Rattray Park neighborhood, the three persuaded the driver to turn up the ignition keys to them or run the risk of being stabbed.

The suspects and the driver got into a battle over the keys. The car eventually crashed into a wall near the Royal Golf Park Junction and the Ridge Police Station.

This attracted curious bystanders from a nearby club, who helped the taxi driver.

Two of the students were caught and turned over to the police, while one student ran away from the incident.

The third suspect was apprehended from his hiding place as a result of inquiries by the Kumasi Central Police command.

Authorities at Opoku Ware School and command officials, however, have declined to comment on the situation.
