A lion at the Accra Zoo has murdered a middle-aged man who was believed to be in his 30s.
The intruder, who had managed to climb the zoo’s security barrier, was discovered roaming the grounds on Sunday around midday, according to the Forestry Commission.
The unidentified visitor was pounced upon and devoured by the lions in what is thought to be an attempt to take a cub.
The invader was attacked and hurt “inside the inner fencing of the enclosure,” according to a statement released by the Forestry Commission.
Due to the injuries he experienced, this ultimately caused his untimely death.
The lioness and the two cubs, according to the Forestry Commission, “remain protected in the enclosure at the Accra Zoo.”
No lion has escaped from the zoo as a result of the event, the Commission emphasized.
Following this occurrence, the Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, John Allotey, and Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Benito Owusu Bio, visited the zoo to make sure that “all facilities remain secure.”
