On Monday, February 21, 2022, lecturers at the University of Professional Studies in Accra (UPSA) have been ordered to return to the lecture halls.
This information was presented in an urgent notice written by Dr. Koryoe Anim-Wright, the University’s Registrar, on February 16, 2022.
The notice came after the Labour Division of the Accra High Court issued an injunction against UTAG’s strike.
The order requires UTAG to call a halt to the strike and return to the negotiating table.
The Court’s decision comes after the National Labour Commission (NLC) requested an interlocutory injunction to stop UTAG’s strike while discussions continue.
As a result, UTAG is required to call a halt to the strike until the Court rules on the NLC’s substantive application.
The court, presided over by Justice Frank Aboadwe Rockson, noted that continuing negotiations between the parties may not produce any results if the strike continues, hence the injunction.
