Armed thieves opened fire on a church in Atwima Afrancho in the Ashanti Region, wounding five people, three of whom were children.
According to an eyewitness, the heavily armed thieves assaulted the Heaven Embassy church around 1:00 a.m. on Easter Friday during a watch night worship.
While worship was in progress, they heard loud gunshots, according to Head Pastor, Pastor Newton.
Because the armed robbers wore black, they initially mistook them for police officers from distance, according to him.
When they entered the unfinished church, however, they began pointing the rifle towards the congregation. According to Pastor Newton, the guys then requested one of the junior pastors to turn off all the lights in the auditorium.
The armed thieves demanded that all worshippers lie face down before robbing all of their valuables, including cell phones and cash.
Unfortunately, five of the members were struck by earlier bullets, including three children whose identities are presently unknown.
Pastor Newton added that before leaving, the burglars seized the keys to a church member’s motorcycle, which was parked in front of the church. They abandoned it when they tried bolting with it and discovered it couldn’t accelerate.
According to Pastor Newton, the affected members are currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
As part of their investigation into the event, Kumasi Police have launched a manhunt for the robbers.
