In a thrilling 4-1 derby triumph over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Vitaly Janelt scored a stunning double and Christian Eriksen made his Brentford debut.
The Bees were the superior team in the first half, but the Blues took the lead just after the break thanks to an Antonio Rudiger long-range thunderbolt.
Brentford replied magnificently by scoring three goals in ten minutes, with Janelt hitting the target twice, either side of Eriksen’s exquisite finish at the end of a stunning counter-attack.
The Bees ran wild in their first victory over Chelsea since 1939, halting their London opponents’ six-match winning streak and moving 11 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
Ivan Toney let the stranded Blues goalkeeper off the hook when his lob flew over the crossbar, allowing Edouard Mendy to get away with a bad pass just five minutes in.
In an excellent start for Brentford, Toney had a shot palmed wide by Mendy, and the wasteful striker headed off target from close range.
Chelsea appeared to be lacking in creativity, but Hakim Ziyech forced David Raya into action with a rasping left-footed shot after Mason Mount picked him open in the penalty area.
Rudiger scored the game’s first goal three minutes into the second half, unleashing a stinging right-foot effort from nearly 40 yards out that flashed past Raya.
Chelsea’s pleasure was short-lived, however, as Janelt completed a well-executed move two minutes later by bringing Brentford level with his left foot.
Four minutes after that equalizer, the Bees ripped the Blues apart with a superb counter-attack, with Eriksen finishing with his left foot after Bryan Mbeumo spotted his sprinting run into the box.
Toney threaded a brilliantly weighted pass into the path of Janelt, who coolly dinked the ball over Mendy and into the back of the net with his left foot. Thomas Frank’s side continued to throw the ball around with a swagger, and they were rewarded with a beautiful third goal on the hour mark.
Wissa added insult to injury only minutes after entering the game, blasting home with his right foot after a mix-up between Rudiger and Thiago Silva left Chelsea befuddled.
