Kwame Despite and his brother Ofori Sarpong partner government to establish new national airline. The businessmen have acquired an Air Carrier Licence (ACL) under the brand name Ashanti Airlines as stated in the aviation new paper published on the 24th of January,2022 Ghana has been without a national airline since the collapse of Ghana International Airlines in 2010.
The potential investors have made presentations to a committee chaired by Twumasi Ankrah Selby, which has been mandated by the government to receive and evaluate all investor proposals. It will make recommendations in this regard to Transport Minister Kweku Ofori Asiamah, who for his part, will make final recommendation to the Ghanaian Cabinet.
Aviation Ghana sources say, Ashanti Airlines has already made their intention to partner the government to establish a new home-based carrier known to the committee established by the Minister for Transport, Kweku Ofori Asiamah, to vet all proposals for the initiative.
