The recent security concerns in the country has pushed the Ghana Police Service to introduce a new strategy to help in the detection and prevention of crime.
On the 12th of August 2021, Dr George Akuffo Dampare the Acting Inspector General of the Ghana police service launched the Horse Patrol Operations units.
The Horse Patrol Operations unit is to assist the other units of the police service in prevention and detection of crime.
Also, the unit will help create a friendly and an interactive security atmosphere in the country. The move is to ensure that citizens do not leave in fear and panic.
The Horse Patrol Operations unit will add to the already existing crime prevention operations like community foot patrol, motorbike patrol, visibility patrol among other patrol operations.

The Horse Patrol Operations unit were assured the needed logistics for the effective performance of their duties.
The Director-General, National Patrols Department (NPD), COP Mr Yaagy Akuribah, speaking on behalf of the Acting IGP, advised the troopers to demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of their work for excellent service delivery.
