Francis Xavier-Sosu, a Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, has sent a message of support to James Gyakye Quayson, a legislator for Assin North, who was barred from holding office by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, April 13.
In a Facebook post, Hon. Sosu wrote:
“Hon. James Quayson I am so much in pain but I need you to remember that It doesn’t matter what life throws at you. Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.
“There are many instances where minority views eventually becomes the majority view. It’s all a matter of time. Keep believing your dreams and stand strong.”
By a 5-2 majority judgment, the Supreme Court ordered him to cease acting as an MP.
Prof. Henrietta Mensah Bonsu, Mariama Owusu, Gertrude Torkornoo, and Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi voted in favor, while Justices Agnes Dordzie and Nene Amegatcher dissented.
Mr Gyakye Quayson was previously deemed ineligible to run in the December 7, 2020 Parliamentary Elections by the Cape Coast High Court, presided over by Justice Coram Kwasi Boakye, since he held dual citizenship before picking up candidacy forms from the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC).
As a result, new elections were ordered, and Mr Gyakye Quayson was asked to step down as a member of Parliament.
