Liverpool 4-0 Manchester United: Reds go on top of table with a double from Salah.

Liverpool moved to the top of the Premier League with a 4-0 win over an abysmal Manchester United at Anfield on Tuesday. Mohamed Salah scored twice.

Within 22 minutes, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah had scored to put Jurgen Klopp’s side on course to leapfrog defending champions Manchester City, who will face Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday in the hope of reclaiming the title.

For the first time in four years, United failed to register a single shot in the first half of a Premier League match. They came back from a 2-0 deficit to overcome City 3-2 the previous time, but there were few hints of such a thrilling comeback this time.

Salah sealed Liverpool’s first Premier League double over United since the 2013-14 season, and Sadio Mane ensured it with a stunning finish to his excellent assist.

Salah exposed United’s shoddy defense and squared for Diaz to tap in after just five minutes.

In the seventh minute, United fans came together in a heartwarming show of support for Cristiano Ronaldo, who was absent due to the death of his baby son.

Salah produced a superb finish to a nice play featuring Diaz, Joel Matip, and Mane after Paul Pogba was forced out with an injury.

After interim manager Ralf Rangnick changed the structure for the second half, United showed more courage, with half-time introduction Jadon Sancho finally working Alisson with effort.

After Alisson saved goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga in quick succession after the hour mark, Mane stroked a delivery from Diaz past David de Gea and into the bottom-right corner to give Liverpool a 68th-minute lead.

Salah then hooked the ball over De Gea with five minutes remaining to condemn United to their third consecutive Premier League away defeat for only the fourth time in the competition’s history.
