Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad 4-1 to go eight points clear at the top of LaLiga. Eduardo Camavinga and Luka Modric produced amazing long-range goals.
At the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, Mikel Oyarzabal’s early penalty put the sixth-placed Basques in ahead, but Madrid fought back to keep their title hopes alive.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side took the lead after two wonderful goals from Camavinga and Modric in the space of three minutes late in the first half.
After having two goals disallowed, Karim Benzema scored from the penalty spot, and Marco Asensio added a fourth goal to round up a fantastic display by Los Blancos.
After Dani Carvajal had upended David Silva, Oyarzabal blasted a penalty into the bottom-right corner to give La Real the lead in the 10th minute.
After that early setback, the leaders increased their pressure and were level four minutes before halftime when Camavinga unleashed a tremendous drive from 30 yards out, giving Alex Remiro no chance.
Moments later, Benzema’s goal was disallowed for offside, but Modric put Madrid ahead with a superb left-foot shot into the top-far corner after creating space for himself with his quick feet.
After the break, Los Blancos continued where they left off.
Benzema had a goal disallowed for offside, but he scored from the spot when a VAR check determined that Aritz Elustondo had fouled Vinicius Junior just inside the box.
The frosting on the cake came from Asensio, who tucked in after Carvajal sliced the ball back into his path as La Real were washed aside.
