Samuel Takyi, a young Ghanaian boxer won his first Olympic medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics
Takyi defeated 32 year Colombian David Ceiber Avila during the men’s feather (52 – 57 kg) quarter final. The boxing took place at Kokugikan Arena on August 1st 2021 in Tokyo Japan.
This remarkable success by Takyi has brought a lot of celebrations as it ends Ghana’s long years of medal drought in the Olympic games.
Samuel Takyi was born on 23 December 2000. He is a young Ghanaian amateur boxer who made his mark at the world level in style. He won against Caicedo of Ecuador in the first round of the featherweight at Tokyo 2020.

However, Takyi’s incredible performance at the Tokyo 2020 came to an end when he lost to Duke Regain on a 4 -1 split decision during the Semi-finals on August 3rd 2021.
