“Shake up your government to remove all the many dead woods that have turned the ministries into their kingdoms – Mahama to Akufo-Addo

The Akufo-Addo-led administration has been given several recommendations by former president John Mahama to undertake in order to revive the faltering economy.

He asserts that Ghana will likely become totally “broke like Sri Lanka” if financial restraint is not maintained.

Mahama was speaking on the topic of “Ghana’s debt burden, reflections, and solutions” at the opening of a think tank called ‘Think Progress Ghana’.

He recommended that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, be promptly fired by President Akufo-Addo because he has failed the nation, among other things.

In order to garner support from the populace, Mr. Mahama also requested that the President address the nation right away about the situation of the economy.

Regarding the downgrading of Ghana’s credit rating by Moody’s and Fitch, Mr. Mahama claimed that President Akufo-Addo and his economic management team had failed to take rational decisions to support Ghana’s vulnerable economy.

“He should conduct a major shakeup of his government to remove all the many dead woods that have turned the ministries into their kingdoms. Finally, he should huddle with the best brains of this country to formulate a comprehensive recovery plan for our economy.”

“President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Head of the Economic Management Team, rather appallingly, remain nonchalant in the face of this serious crisis and have limited their response to the imposition of very harsh and regressive tax measures, one of which is the E-Levy, which has been roundly rejected by the people of Ghana”, he said.
