Over a 1,000 people in Keta municipality have been rendered homeless after tidal waves swept through their homes on Sunday dawn.
This wave affected residents of Salakope, Amutinu, Abutiakope, Kedzikope and some communities along the Keta-Aflao stretch in the Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Keta, Emmanuel Gemegah says the central government and other benevolent organizations must urgently come to the aid of residents in the municipality after the strong sea wave swept their homes.
On the other hand, the MCE of Ketu South Maxwell Lugudor has assured the public that, plans are under way to evacuate the affected residents. He made this assurance Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Monday with Evans Mensah.
Lugodor said; “What we are doing right now is to get a particular place where the people can move in. By tomorrow morning, I’m sure we would get a particular place where we will evacuate everybody that is affected. We have to meet them for them to agree to stay there…”
Also, Francis Asenso-Boakye, Minister for Works and Housing, has assured of budgetary allocation for the completion of the Keta sea defence wall.
