Jason Momoa is close to signing a deal to join Vin Diesel and the rest of the star-studded ensemble cast in Fast & Furious 10 (working title). While plot details are scarce, the Aquaman star could play one of the film’s antagonists.
Justin Lin, who previously directed F9: The Fast Saga in 2021, is back in the director’s chair. Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and Sung Kang will all reprise their roles in the tenth installment.
Charlize Theron, who initially featured in The Fate of the Furious in the eighth film and returned for F9, is also set to return.
Dwayne Johnson, who participated in the fifth through eighth films as well as the spinoff Hobbs & Shaw, was courted by Diesel both privately and publicly, the latter via social media. Following a November Instagram post in which Diesel asked for Johnson to return, Johnson declared in a December interview that there was “no chance,” calling Diesel manipulative.
The hunt was on to find someone who could fulfil the quotient of star and brute force that was required. However, because the script is still under development, it’s unknown whether Momoa’s role is protagonistic or adversarial, or possibly both.
Fast & Furious movies have stayed energized and relevant in recent years not only by increasing the size of the stunts, but also by beefing up the cast with appearances by Charlize Theron, Dakota Johnson, Jason Statham, and John Cena, as well as Helen Mirren.
Who else might return for Fast 10, which is set to shoot this spring, is unknown. The film is scheduled to be released on May 19, 2023, by Universal.
Momoa finished filming the Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, last year and is set to star in Slumberland, an epic fantasy based on the early twentieth-century Winsor McCay comic strip, which will be released on Netflix later this year.
